Experimental and Modeling Investigation of CO3=/OH– Equilibrium Effects on Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell Performance in Carbon Capture Applications

Molten Carbonate Fuel Cells (MCFCs) are used today commercially for power production. More recently they have also been considered carbon capture from industrial and generation CO 2 sources. In this newer application context, our recent studies shown that at low /H O cathode gas ratios, water supplements in the electrochemical process to generate but not . We now report direct Raman observation of underlying carbonate-hydroxide equilibrium an alkali carbonate eutectic near MCFC operating conditions. Our improved model built on experimental data adjusts internal resistance terms has representation performance.
